COVID-19 and your pet

At present there is no evidence that cats, dogs, or any other domestic animal, will transmit COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) or become sick.

However, it is always a good idea to practice healthy habits around your pets and other animals. This includes:

  • Washing your hands after handling animals, their food, waste, or supplies.
  • Practicing good pet hygiene and cleaning up after your pet properly.
  • Taking your pet to the veterinarian regularly and talking to your veterinarian if you have questions about his/her health.

Please continue to follow the government’s advice with regards to hygiene and social distancing regarding COVID-19. Information is kept up-to-date on the Department of Health's website.
